FAQs

General

Do these treatments have any risks?

Not at all. Other than Alpha-Stim, we are not introducing anything to your brain. Our equipment simply measures the levels of your brain waves and adjusts the software to condition the brain. It does not transmit any waves or electricity or anything. Alpha-Stim simply introduces a specific Alpha wave that is scientifically proven harmless.

How long does it take to see results?

The severity of the problem plays a big part into treatment length, but generally speaking you will notice a difference after 15-20 sessions. Each person and brain responds to trainings differently, so the exact number varies.

What if I take medication?

All of our treatment modalities pair well with medication. It has not shown to have any adverse side effects when paired with medication. In fact, most clients lose the need for the same dosage or the med all together.

We may ask that you don’t take your medication a few days before your QEEG (depending on the meds), but that is so we can get an accurate baseline of your brain.

Billing

Are Enhanced Edge services covered by insurance?

Enhanced Edge is currently in-network with:

  • Highmark BlueCross BlueShield of Delaware

We are actively seeking credentialing with other major insurances. In the meantime, our clients have had great success seeking reimbursement from their insurance after self-paying for treatment.

Can I still be reimbursed by my insurance?

The answer is sometimes. We have had clients in the past get reimbursed for their treatment with us. It may not be at full-cost due to the billing codes associated with Neuro/Biofeedback, but something is better than nothing!

We will provide you with all the information needed to contact your insurance about a reimbursement.

Do I pay per session or can I pay in bulk?

We have training session packages that allow you to purchase in bulk and save money! You are still allowed to pay per session, but most of our clients choose to purchase and schedule in bulk.

Can I pay in monthly installments?

Neurofeedback

Are neurofeedback training results long lasting?

Yes. In the same way you learned a new skill like driving a car, our patients finish their treatment regimen and do not typically need to return. However, some people opt to continue periodically as a “tune-up” or return later on to address new challenges.

Does brain mapping for neurofeedback interefere with current medications?

No. We encourage you to continue taking any medications recommended by your physician. Over time, we will work with you and your prescribing physician to determine if you may be able to reduce or eliminate medications, based on your results.

Can neurofeedback eliminate the need for medications?

Yes. After undergoing neurofeedback training you may find you need less medication or are able to discontinue it altogether, in concert with your physician.

What ages can benefit from neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback can help adults of any age and children as young as three.

How much does neurofeedback cost?

When it comes to the brain, every brain is different, and every case is unique. Generally speaking, brain training sessions are comparable to or less than the average cost of counseling or other therapies. The QEEG cost is separate from the Neurofeedback sessions and is required in order to build a treatment plan.

Enhanced Edge offers interest free financing options through the CARE Credit Healthcare credit card. Please contact us for our most current fee schedule.

Is neurofeedback covered by insurance?

Yes! We base our treatments on Psychotherapy practices and use Neurofeedback as a courtesy meter for enhancing and monitoring progress. So, normal therapy codes are used with additional add-on codes to reflect the increased complexity. Enhanced Edge currently accepts Highmark BlueCross BlueShield of Delaware and is actively seeking credentialing with other major insurances.

However, some insurers do reimburse for our services, but reimbursement depends on your plan and whether it offers out-of-network coverage for behavioral health. If so, we encourage you to file a claim (we are an out-of-network facility other than BCBS). Feel free to contact us if you have any questions on the reimbursement process.

Biofeedback

What are the risks with biofeedback?

In over 50 years of usage, no long-term negative effects have ever been identified with neurofeedback training. Sometimes a person may notice a short-term increase in symptoms as the brain adjusts to a new pattern. This increase in symptoms usually goes away rapidly on its own or can be minimized easily by a trained clinician’s adjustment of the treatment protocol.

How many sessions does it take to see results?

Changes to the brain typically happen slowly and over time. For that reason, it can take many sessions to achieve long-term changes in symptoms and brain functioning. Like all forms of exercise and therapy, it’s best to do biofeedback training on a regular schedule, usually 2-3 times a week.

-To determine response to treatment: Most systems may take between 10 - 20 sessions before a patient can tell if treatment is helping.

-To consolidate long-term benefits: 30-40 sessions are typically recommended for all systems. For more complicated conditions, more sessions may be needed.

Are biofeedback training results long lasting?

Yes. In the same way you learned a new skill like driving a car, our patients finish their treatment regimen and do not typically need to return. However, some people opt to continue periodically as a “tune-up” or return later on to address new challenges.

How does biofeedback help in the long-term?

Since we teach techniques to help you learn to control your body’s response to stress and pain, you will be able to use these skills in other parts of your life.

Does biofeedback interefere with current medications?

No. We encourage you to continue taking any medications recommended by your physician. Over time, we will work with you and your prescribing physician to determine if you may be able to reduce or eliminate medications, based on your results.
